Extract from Barts 1947 edition.

Only some roads are numbered

Extract from Barts 1965 edition.

The M6 has appeared to the south-west of the extract. A motorway called the M62 runs west of Manchester. There'll be a couple of name changes for this stretch of road - it is now part of the M60. The other feature to note is the central Manchester dual carriageway - shown as an A road. Later extracts show this as motorway - did it open as the A57(M) or, as this map suggests, did it open as an A road?

Extract from Barts 1969 edition.

The most significant change in this extract is the projected line of the M62 running NE from the existing M62.

Extract from Barts 1973 edition.

Big changes here - the M62 shown as projected in the 1969 extract is now open. Most of the original M62 is now the M63, and is being extended south-east. The M61 has appeared. The first bit of the M602 is now open. The M62 towards Liverpool is under construction - due open in 1974. Finally, the M56 Altrincham bypass is open, with extensions each end under construction.

Extract from Barts 1976 edition.

The final Barts scan of this collection - and in 3 years a lot has happened. The M66 and A627(M) have both been built and opened. The M56 and M63 now meet north of Cheadle. The M56 and M62 now reach the M6. Finally, the M67 is under construction.

Extract from Collins 1979 edition.

The M67 is open. The M66 is extended by one junction to the south of the M62.

Extract from AA 1987 edition.

Under Construction - needs a bit of editing because of page divides in the atlas.
