Wrynose and Hardknott Passes

England's highest peaks from just above the Roman fort.

The view point for this picture is here - this time we are a five minute walk north from the Roman Fort.

After climbing a grassy slope, this panorama of some of England's highest peaks unfolds in front of your eyes. Here, we are separated from the high peaks by the steep-sided valley of Eskdale. The ever changing weather conditions in this part of the Lake District brought the cloud that gives this picture a somewhat sombre appearance. This view is not visible from the road, but it is worth the 5 or 10 minutes walking to see it.
